Being planned first, and being such an important part of SABR's research future, this project actually stands to dictate future projects more than it will be influenced by them, but there are a few points worth noting:

  • The encyclopedia will be loosely connected with the in-progress group of web sites for committees for the purpose of publishing research. Those sites will be used for publishing more traditional pieces of single-author research in the subject areas of the individual committees, and those pieces can link to encyclopedia articles and vice versa. The encyclopedia is not a proposal to prevent members from publishing immutable research with attribution.
  • There will be a single, coordinated sign-on between the encyclopedia and the rest of SABR's web site(s). This is important, but it's not hard - for someone to edit the encyclopedia, all we need to know is that they are who they say they are, not their address, membership status, or anything else. I (Peter) have already found a solution that will work for this with our current member software, and am waiting for Troy Web to implement it.
  • The encyclopedia may be more connected to a future member management system. Some examples of possible results of this are:
    • Allowing members to see which of their "watched" articles have been changed directly from their "welcome" screen that they seen when first visiting the site (the same screen would show updates on other SABR news, friend activity, etc).
    • Measuring meaningful contribution to the encyclopedia (along with other positive activity) and recognizing it. Something like this is being done by at least one association - positive feedback should lead to increased involvement.
